The Dougherty County Health Department is now accepting Aetna, Cigna and Coventry for the full scope of its services – family planning; sexually-transmitted disease evaluation and treatment; child health, adult health and women’s health; immunizations (both adult and children); and tuberculosis skin tests. It continues to accept plans with limited insurance coverage.

“Now that the health department offers coverage for all services, it offers significant additional benefits to our community,” said Dougherty County Health Department Nurse Manager Remy Hutchins. “For example, residents can stay local to get services, utilizing local resources.”

She said that enables patients to reduce out-of-pocket expenses. “It makes our community’s access to healthcare easier,” she said. “In some cases, for example, it may cut back on transportation costs.”

Hutchins pointed out that Dougherty County’s economy benefits directly because patients utilizing more of the health department’s services generate more funds for the health department – and those funds go right back into the local economy rather into an out-of-town corporation.

“Patients themselves get the added benefit of interacting with our friendly, helpful staff, who can provide guidance with paperwork,” Hutchins said.

Southwest Health District’s county health departments and clinics also accept Medicaid, Peachstate, Amerigroup, Wellcare (all services), Blue Cross/Blue Shield, United Healthcare State Health Benefit Plan, and Medicare for certain services. Some programs offer a self-pay sliding fee scale based on income. For more information, contact the Dougherty County Health Department at 229-430- 6200.
